Agouti Siberian Husky Genetics

Agouti Siberian Husky GeneticsIn November of 2013, we were contacted by Dr. Sheila Schmutz of the University of Saskatchewan with a request to provide DNA to help further her study on agouti Siberian Husky genetics.

As Dr. Schmutz explained in her message, recently, French researchers reported a new allele at the E locus which may affect some coat colors or pattern. They have found this ONLY in Siberian Husky and Alaskan Malamute dogs so far.

Agouti Siberian Husky GeneticsDr. Schmutz’s team are anxious to study this with a sample from an agouti Siberian Husky, and requested a sample of Rozlin’s DNA to help further their research.

We are excited to be given the opportunity to help further Dr. Schmutz’s research into coat color genetics, and were thrilled to participate in her study.

Dr. Sheila Schmutz also did a podcast, explaining some of her work with coat color genetics.  While Siberians are not specifically mentioned this podcast, it is still very informative!  http://castroller.com/podcasts/GenomeBarks/2492312
